So YOU wanna be a designer?
BUT do you have what it takes?


I get emails all the time asking me how to start a league page design site so I thought I would just put this up so everyone can see what you should know BEFORE you even think about creating your own site.

1st thing you need to know is HTML. (I dont mean how to copy/paste someone elses codes either!) I mean you need to HTML. You need to know how the codes work together. You should be able to code tables, images, links etc... WITHOUT looking at someone elses codes to do it.

If you CANT do this 1st thing then dont bother creating your own site! (sorry dont mean to be rude, but ... this is where you will start getting into trouble and then finding yourself in the HALL OF SHAME!)

2nd Learn the law of the land!... lets clear something up before we go any further shall we?
NO NO NO its NOT ok to view source of other designers pages and use parts of their codes to create your pages! DONT rely on someone else saying "ya I can code that here are the codes" (if they are not one of the designers listed as contacts on the Hall of Shame) then DONT USE THE CODES THEY GIVE YOU! why??? I have ran into countless people who take codes from others they think they can trust and come to find out that that person actually didnt code anything themselves they took it from one of us, therefore leaving you looking like an IDIOT and at fault for the codes. This is why I cant stress enough, KNOW THE CODES!

If you need to purchase templates from either myself or one of the other REPUTIBLE designers to start out then that is fine. Myself, I will create a custom template just for your site to use for your resell pages. (this will keep you out of trouble with the other designers) there are also a few of us that if ASKED we will guide you on how to create a template. DONT BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP!!!!

3rd... GRAPHICS...
NEVER EVER go to places like photobucket or google to get any images to use on your tourney pages or league pages! WHY??? 90% of what is on photobucket is copyrighted to SOMEONE ELSE! and not the one who actually uploaded the image. If your serious about having a design site.. THEN DESIGN!

Graphics.. there are several places you can get TUBES (if you dont know what this is.. stop now and dont bother going any further till you do learn)! tubes are images that have been stripped of their backgrounds that you can use in PAINT SHOP PRO or PHOTOSHOP.

list below is just a starting point for you to look:
www.mypsptubes.com (PAY TO USE tubes and NO you cant use them on any page that you create to sell! only on free pages can these be used) you must have a license to use these tubes.

www.outlawbydesign.com (PAY TO USE and she does have some freebies you can snag up as well) she does NOT require a license to use her images on your pages for sell nor does she require any link backs to her site

www.ufdesigns.com/ (PAY TO USE and they do have some freebies you can snag up as well) they do NOT require a license to use their images on your pages for sell nor do they require any link backs to their site

www.scdesignz2.com/store/ this is MY store where you can purchase images to use on your pages for sell with no link backs required to my site

www.scdesignz2.com/tubesnscraps/news.php this is MY tubes site where you can purchase a membership to get all the tubes you need to use on your pages for sell with no link backs required

If you choose to use scrap kits to create pages for sell.. READ THE SCRAPPERS TOU before you do so. 90% do NOT allow their kits to be used on any commercial use pages! so read TOU's before you go getting yourself into trouble.

another thing on graphics... UNLESS you have designed the image from scratch
lets use this image for example


I created both of those from scratch so i can claim them as MY OWN and therefore i can put the copyright to me on those

when you finish a page be it either league page or tourney page (and if your not using a MY PSP TUBE artist tube) you should put something like

league layout copyright "your site name"

tagged by "your name and site link"

if you created the image you used then you can put
layout and images copyright "your site name"

** if your using a my psp tubes artist tube (keep in mind you cant sell that page but you must put the following on the image)
artist name and link
your mpt license #
and can also included tagged by your name

4th.. paid or free domain and hosting

If your serious about wanting your own design site then get yourself a domain and PAID hosting.

I suggest SERVAGE www.servage.com
you get your domain name included with your hosting fees

* be prepared to spend at least $45 every 6 months for hosting fees (this is well worth it! cause of the bandwidth it gives you) and yes that is important when having your own site since pple will be using your pages and that means bandwidth (free sites may shut down your site once you exceed bandwidth for that month and then wont allow it to come back up till the next month. you dont want that!)

lastly... RESPECT the other designers!

to be a designer means you have your own ideas and creativeness to bring to the table, ask us for help if you need it, we dont bite! and most of us are more then willing to point you in the right direction.

However if you persist on not taking any of the advice I have laid out and go about your own business and do the things that I suggest you dont do, then you will end up in the HALL OF SHAME for all to see.
